Editing Phase

For our music video project, the editing phase is a very important part seeing as we have not yet filmed all the footage we need. It is very important to fulfill the potential of the footage we already have. So far we have used our editing time to cut between shots using effects such fading. Another thing we need to do to with our music video in order to fulfill the potential of it is edit the colours, this is what we are currently doing as this way each shot will look more interesting, making at less dull and making the focus in the shots clear as it makes it stand out much more.

extra possible footage...

Our music video isn't fulfilling its potential as we didn't get as many varied shots as we had hoped. We have had to repeat shots to fill in gaps and to stop a certain shot dragging on. We have been told our music video is at a high standard, and with a few more different shots could be pushing grade boundaries. So we wish to have the opportunity to take the camera out over the half term period.

1. One idea we had was to repeat the shot of Emile on the bench jumping about, however we decided to use the backdrop of a wall in place of the bench, so that Emile would be in a different location providing variation.

2. Also, the shot of Emile in the black room isn't to great when hes not singing into the camera. We need to do some shots of Emile from the side singing into the camera.

3. We need a lot more moving shots, as the majority of the shots are static. This could easily be done by simple shots, e.g. shots of Emile walking an singing behind the girl.

4. Shots from above with Emile laying on the ground would be different and effective. It could represent how he is out of energy and tired from running after the girl he's singing about.

Response to rough cut feedback

After receiving feedback on our rough cut from other media students, it is clearer to us as a group to what we need to so to improve our music video and in order to fulfill its potential as a project. The feedback enabled us to put our objectives into prospective, for example, it is now clear to us that our main objective is editing before the music is video is finished. Our rough cut was a basic example of what we will have when we have completed the music video, during the phase where we will get the majority of our editing done we will add many more effects to the music video making it more exiting and interesting to watch. It is also important that we use all of our footage effectively, cutting from one shot to another throughout the music video, this is also important as the more variety we have in our shots the better as if we use a particular shot too much or for too long we risk making the music video boring or tedious to the audience. If we are successful in the editing process of the music video and use all of the footage effectively, i am confident that we can make a very interesting and professional music video.

Feedback from Rough Cut

Camerawork
One of the common comments from the feedback of the rough cut was that more variety of shots were needed in the section for comments on the camerawork.

Editing
One of the comments on our editing was that the 'lip syncing needs to be sorted' this is something we are currently working on and the lip syncing will be in line by the time our final music video is finished. A more positive comment on the editing was that the shot where Emile pops out from between the couple is good and takes the audience by surprise.

Effects
People have criticized there is a lack of effects used but we will use more effects before we finish the the music video.

Mise-en-scene
On one of the shots the sun is glaring in the background, one of the comments from our feedback says that this is good and effective. There were other positive comments on the mise-en-scene, such as the editing and the lighting throughout the music video which is effective in the video as it makes it more realistic.

Performance/Genre
In the feedback it said that the performance was good in most points as the people acting in the video did not show embarrassment, this is clearly a good thing as the better the performance of the actors, the more realistic the music video will seem. One of the comments said that when Emile is singing the song, it looks realistic as if he is actually singing in real life. A less positive point from the feedback, points out that there were times during the video where we did not keep a straight face. this is important as the video needs to be serious as it will make it realistic, to solve this, we will not use the footage where some of the acting is less believable.

Continuity
In our rough cut, it is not clear exactly how the final project will pull together as it is still largely unedited for most of the video, despite this, the people who commented on or rough cut sated that the continuity is good and it is clear where the video is heading in terms of a transformation between a unedited rough cut and a decent final music video.

Overall Comments
Generally, people like the idea of the video and think that it will be good at the end of the project, despite this, people feel that more editing is required if the music video is to fulfill its potential.

response to our feedback

First of all we shall address the problem with our location planning.

For our video we are going to shoot the majority of the video in the pond area of the college, in this area there are picnic benches that we will be using and the whole area looks like a village park, which is fitting for a meeting place between the two characters in the music video.

Another issue raised in our feedback is the lack of mention of props that we will be using in our video, this is for the simple reason that we are not going to be using any specific props whilst filming. What we will be using, as previously mentioned, will be the benches that are already there and that is basically it.

Finally, our shot list.we are aiming to keep our video simple, as we have been given the advice that sometimes less is more, and from watching some simple videos we think that it achieves a good affect after all editing has taken place.

1st: the two are sitting on separate benches. using the fish eye lens, it will emphasize the distance between the two people. (whilst the music is playing without any lyrics)

2nd: various shots of the boy, in different positions on his bench, and her hardly moving at all. Again these shots will be using the fish eye lens. (also when there are no lyrics, just music)

3rd: when the lyrics comes in shot will vary from him being beside her, and then sitting on the other separate bench, again with him in different positions on the bench, "jumping" from one place to the other.

4th: shot from down the side of the bench with the boy in the foreground and her in the background with him singing.

5th: in the chorus, panning shots of the boy lying on top of the bench with camera circling him. this would be without the fish eye lens.

6th:

feedback from our peers

from the feedback that we received there are a few areas of our planning that need revisiting and improving. For example, we need to include a new step by step shot list as this will portray our intentions for our music video a lot clearer. Another point that has been made clear is that we need to expand upon our location ideas, at the moment it is very vague and lacks sufficient analysis and detail. At the moment others in the class have rated our planning efforts at an average of about a level three. To up our grade and maximize our grades we are going to have to do additional work on our blog to achieve higher levels of planing marks.

Casting

As a group we have still got to solve the problem of who is going to be in our video, for instacen who is playing the main boy. Within or group there are three boys; myself emile and adam. Between us will have still to decide who will be in the video. to solve this situation we could either discuss the problem to see if anyone is willing to do it or we could have a vote to and go with the outcome. on the other hand for the girl, it would be simple enough if sohie was to play that part, however if sophie has any objection to the idea then it would not be too hard to find a friend who would be willing to play the girls part. other than this minor set back, as a group, we are all now ready to begin filming.

Costumes- Rethink

As we did not obtain the shots from the party the ideas for costume variation has had to be revisited as we have changed our idea of how and where we are shooting. instead of having the previously mentioned outfits of a shirt and casual jeans, we have decided it would be more appropriate to film the boy wearing less impressive clothes. the reason behind our thinking is that if he is so upset with his currnet situation he would not be bothered about what he is wearing, therefore we can invisage him wearing tracksuit bottoms, and probably a hoody as these clothes are "lounge about" clothes.

we have not decided on a costume for the girl in the video, but this is not one of our main concerns as she is not the main aspect of the video we will be concentrating on. for this reason it is not critical that we immediately think of an outfit that she will be wearing.
